Data & Methodology

How LocalRoofOps builds its Oklahoma roofing cost and storm data across 114 cities — sources, cost methodology, update frequency, and limitations.

Data Sources

U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS)
Roofing contractor wage data by Oklahoma county; used to derive local labor cost per square foot.
NOAA Storm Events Database
Hail and tornado event records by county, 2010-2026; used for the hail-events-per-year and tornado-count figures.
FEMA Disaster Declarations
Oklahoma disaster declarations since 2010, used across the storm-risk columns.
International Residential Code (IRC) 2018/2021
Wind zone ratings and Oklahoma building-code amendments; basis for wind-zone and underlayment guidance.
Local contractor surveys
Anonymized cost estimates from Oklahoma roofing contractors, collected quarterly to calibrate installed prices.
Primary research

Cost Methodology

Roof replacement costs use three severity tiers:

  • Minor — localized shingle replacement, vent/flashing repair. Typically 3-10% of roof area.
  • Moderate — partial or full shingle replacement over a section of the roof. 25-50% of roof area.
  • Severe — full roof replacement, including decking, underlayment, and flashing where needed.

Each tier reports a low-average-high range. Installed costs include materials and labor; tear-off, disposal, permits, and gutters are itemized or noted separately where applicable. Prices are calibrated against current Oklahoma contractor rates and adjusted quarterly.

Update Frequency

Cost figures are reviewed and refreshed quarterly using the latest contractor surveys and material price data. Storm data (hail, tornado, FEMA) is historical (2010-2026) and updated annually. Individual city pages are refreshed on a rolling basis to reflect the latest figures.

Limitations

  • Costs are estimates, not quotes. Actual pricing depends on roof complexity, material grade, contractor, and season.
  • Storm counts are historical records, not predictions of future events.
  • Population and home-age figures are from the most recent U.S. Census and county assessments available.
  • These guides are informational and not a substitute for a licensed contractor’s on-site assessment or legal/insurance advice.
